Seriously On TV: BET Must Put Up Or Shut Up!

BET is this country’s first African American owned cable network.  And we were ready for it in the 80’s!  It was awesome.  But, like tons of networks out there, the $$$ dollar signs$$$ poured in even more after Viacom bought BET from the founder several years ago.

BET then became a whore of a network and was one of my inspirations for starting this blog against the ghetto mentality and hoochie mama life style that BET currently promotes very heavily.

Now, it’s time for BET to put up or shut up.  The black viewer base is changing and we do not want to see more “booty videos”!  The network suits better come up with new ways of ‘Black Entertainment Television’ actually being ‘Black Entertainment Television’ or we are going to see off-the-air static instead of shows.

Over 25 years after it’s founding BET is having trouble attracting an African American audience. Many have stopped watching the channel due to the lack of an actual news show and because of all the booty shaking videos. Click the link below to hear a great story about this done by NPR’s Neda Ulaby

  1. I have never expected anything relevant or uplifting to come out of BET, especially since the Black founder sold it to a white-owned corporation.
