Beauty-Tude: Iman V. First Lady
US First Lady Michelle Obama is not a “great beauty,” but will “just get better with age,” Iman, one of the first black supermodels, says in a magazine interview.
“Mrs Obama is not a great beauty,” the Somali-born model and wife of rocker David Bowie tells Parade magazine’s Sunday issue, reflecting on the first black US first lady, who is a lawyer by training and a former executive.
“But she is so interesting looking and so bright. That will always take you farther. When you?re a great beauty, it?s always downhill for you. If you?re someone like Mrs Obama, you just get better with age,” she said.

Iman, you can have your opinions. Talking about our First Lady’s choices of clothing is one thing. I would have chosen not to speak out about our First Lady in this manner, at least in regards to her “beauty”. Would you?

I don’t see where Iman was “speaking out about” Mrs. Obama. If anything, it was a compliment.
Mrs. Obama isn’t a “great beauty” by the standards of modeling or classical art. She does – as Iman says – however, have the sort of appearance that will weather the years well and perhaps even become more striking. She’s also bright and animated which will count far more in the long run.

True, but what about when an aging, past her career supermodel says it, but also she you have the sort of look that gets better with time and possess something beyond mere beauty?

Oviously Iman is clueless about what makes a great beauty. Women like Mrs. Obama will always be considered to be one of the great beauties of the world.
