Serious Irony: Henry Louis Gates’ Arresting Officer Teaches “Racial Profiling”
July 24, 2009
No, not a how-to. James Crowley, the Cambridge police officer who hauled Henry Louis Gates to jail for breaking into his own house, teaches police recruits in Lowell, Mass., a class on how to confront racial issues on the job.

I saved all of my comments for my own blog. There are so many sites and blogs that I wanted to leave comments on, but I thought it would just be better to put them all in one place.
My comments are as follows:
- It was the arresting officer’s job and duty to find out where Mr. Gates lived.
- He (the cop) could have placed him in the back of the police car until he verified.
- If Mr. Gates was upset, the cop could have given him a ticket, to say the least.
- I do believe emotions ran high and that the officer acted with emotion instead of logic. Logic would suggest anyone in Mr. Gates’ position would be upset.
- Someone had to be the bigger person here. Someone should have stepped in and stopped this. Someone could have, but didn’t.
- Honestly, I think they were bored and what a piece of action this was.
- But, as with all decisions…there is a cost.
