Seriously On WTF?: High Heel Shoes For Babies

June 15, 2008

Now, it’s fine to play dress up. I remember wearing those cheap plastic high heel shoes with a cheap molting feather boa, but this is silly, if not ridiculous.she so ghetto heelarius high heels for babies 2

The tiny stillettos, called Heelarious, are intended for babies up to six months and come in hot pink, black and leopard print.

Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter, the American inventors of the footwear, said the heels are only for show and will collapse if any pressure is put on them.

Christopher Cloke, head of child protection awareness at the NSPCC, said: “This is part of a worrying trend of inappropriate clothing being marketed at young children.”

What is this saying about our baby daughters? Should they be thrust into high chic, high fashion and high heels before they turn 6 months old?

Or, should we just let them be babies, little girls and kick about while drooling and chewing their feet like a teething ring?

I love the latter.

These shoes may be fun for Halloween, but I would hope that someone would not push their daughters to get a shoe fetish or addiction too early.

Not to mention that this can’t be good for small, developing ankles and arches. I hope to not see these out on the street anytime soon.

hi, seriously! this comment has nothing to do with this entry:), i’m just posting here because i’m the original poster on that orkut thread about the ghetto prom post on your blog. i’ve tried to contact directly through orkut, but it seems your profile is locked (by default, orkut won’t let your profile be viewed by users in other countries – you can change that on settings).

i’m loving your blog! i’ve just discovered it and i’m slowly going through the archives.

on that thread, you asked how things are on our country and city. around the world, brazilian women are highly stereotyped as “easy”. of course we aren’t all like this, but unfortunately i can’t say this prejudice has no fundament.

see, for example, the “Mulher Melancia”, literally “watermelon woman”, who has this nickname because of the size of her butt. her hips measurement is 121 centimeters, that’s almost 48 inches.

here’s an unphotoshopped picture of her
and here’s a whole blog about her

be afraid, be very afraid 😉
