Will Smith: Not A “Scientology School”

June 30, 2008

You all know about Will Smith and his $1 Mil dollar donation to a school that will include teachings by  The Church Of Scientology.

You can read that post here.

The New Village Academy plans to use some teaching methods developed within the Church of Scientology and has hired a team of Scientologists to put them into action.

Pinkett-Smith, who currently home-schools the couple’s two children, has long been talking about opening up a school where Jaden, 9, and Willow, 7, can continue to receive an education in line with their beliefs, friends told

The school leaders themselves are denying that this school is a “Scientology School”.

Well, is sounds like Will Smith may want to start doing some quick P.R. clean up…

Sounds like he should do what Tom Cruise did…

Go back to Oprah…

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Will Smith ‘s soon-to-open private school is not a Scientology facility, as some reports have suggested, the academy’s director said.

Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have founded the New Village Academy, scheduled to open in September.

The school will use instructional methods developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard called study technology. And a few teachers belong to the church.

But the couple say they are not Scientologists, and the academy’s director insists the facility has no religious affiliation.

No religious affiliation?  Just a hodge podge of people from all walks of like and religious backgrounds coming together to teach children, right?

Sounds a bit like public school to me…unless someone isn’t telling the truth about the school and it’s personnel.  What do you think?

“We are a secular school, and just like all nonreligious independent schools, faculty and staff do not promote their own religions at school or pass on the beliefs of their particular faith to children,” New Village Academy director Jacqueline Olivier told the Los Angeles Times.

Oliver said some of the school’s staffers are Scientologists, Muslim, Christian or Jewish.

In addition to reading and math, the school offers classes on yoga, robotics and etiquette.
