Seriously On: “Hi, I’m Britney Spears And I Got Some Awards.”

September 8, 2008

Gimme a big fat friggin’ break.

Are we giving out awards to people who know how to put on a shiny dress, put down the cigarettes, hire top makeup artists and hair stylists to do her hair extentions?

I guess the answer is “yes”.

Because it’s certainly not because her last CD broke any records or made any respectible grounds… or did it?

Britney Spears Wins VMA Awards

Britney Spears Wins VMA Awards

Looks to me like she got a “I cleaned up my act for the moment” award[s], instead.

I may seem unforgiving.  I am not.  It’s just, like, bogus, you know.  I hate “bogus”.

MTV’s Video Music Awards have always been more about celebrity than music or even music videos. It’s been at least fifteen years since video play on MTV actually had an impact on anyone’s career. It’s all about faux controversy, staged “comebacks” and star-studded performances that often seem close to karaoke than real music.

While no one is going to want to admit it (at least, not anyone at MTV), Spears deserved to win three VMA’s about as much as some random passerby on the street. She won the awards because it was good for the show, because people would talk about it, and because Spears and MTV need each other. They need the buzz, and she is going to need help flogging that upcoming new CD of hers.

After almost 10 years of Spears giving great performances on the show, and NOT winning – this was the least they could do. Believe it or NOT Britney isn’t just a fad. I wonder who said the same thing about Madonna.

Well I thought her video was better than “I kissed a girl” which golly gee, sounds like a one hit wonder. All kidding aside, I wish they DID have a “comeback” award. People are happy for her. Happy that she didn’t let all her problems kill her.

This is why I like Fantasy Football – it kept my ass happily unaware of this mess!

Wow, i think you’re just like the other critics who only notice the bad in people. It doesn’t matter if she has cleaned up or not, the awards were not about her personal life. It was about the music she made. And no she didn’t break any records, but her albums sold out the ass. Look at it this way, Britney released almost what, 3 singles for her album Blackout with little to no promotion for them…barely performed them anywhere and her album still sold A LOT OF RECORDS….It sold. Rihanna who is about to be on her 8th single for the same album GGGB…who’s been promoting up a storm for the past two years, jumped in a publicized relationship to anty herself up, still couldn’t and won’t sell as much as Britney. So, yes she did deserve it. I just don’t think you should be one to judge this woman, because honestly no matter what kind of crap she’s going through she’s going to sell and those awards were wayyy overdue.

No. It’s not about viewing the bad in people. It’s not about being that shallow.
